Sarayaku’s art

Sarayaku women paint each others faces for festivities. The colour they use is made by heating a special fruit, called genipa americana, for 30 minutes in open fire. The painting stays about 10 days.

Women and men also colour their hair with it. And we wondered in the beginning why all of the old women still have black hair 😀.

It was very touching to see the loving contact they had while doing that.
